Configuring Presence for the First Time

What is Presence? Presence is a Cisco Unified Communication product that checks user availability, such as whether a user is on the phone or communication device. Presence is great for companies that need to keep track of users. For example, hospitals are using presence to track the status of doctors that usually can work from variety of locations at any given time.

Presence doesn’t work on its own, though, it must integrate with Cisco Unified Communication Manager to work. It works in conjunction with other products such as Personal Communicator, WebEx, and Mobile Advantage, all applications that provide mobility features for users to move beyond the office space, while away status of the user is maintained within Presence. Ultimately, presence empowers users the ability to locate individuals in a corporate directory instantly, without ever having to dial a number to checks their availability.
